Maiden name Black she is
the middle sister between Bellatrix and Narcissa Black. She was Sirius
Black's favourite cousin. Little is known about Andromeda apart from Tonks
mentioned her mother as being good at household spells – folding and
packing, when Tonks helped Harry pack up his belonging ready for leaving the
Durselys
The name Andromeda is from
Greek Mythology: Andromeda lived in Ethiopia, the daughter of Cassiopeia
and Cepheus. Unfortunately, her mother was overbearing that she thought
herself to be more beautiful than the daughters of Nereus, a god of the sea.
So Cassiopeia was hit by the anger and the revenge of the god Poseidon. To
punish the mother, Andromeda was chained to a rock of the coast as a
sacrifice for a sea monster. She was saved from death by Perseus. For
rescuing her, he demanded Andromeda as his wife, which the parents agreed
to. For this reason, the name Andromeda has the meaning - "The Woman
Chained”
Andromeda is also a constellation in the Northern Hemisphere between Lacerta
and Perseus and south of Cassiopeia. It contains a large spiral galaxy
visible to the naked eye. The spiral is 2.2 million light-years from Earth.

Muggle-born wizard, Ted was
described by his daughter as a "right old slob," in contrast to the Durselys,
whose house seemed unnaturally clean to Nymphadora.
Extended Family:
Tonks is related via her
mother, Andromeda, to The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black whose family
motto is "Toujours Pur" [Always Pure] Needless to say Andromeda’s marriage to a
muggle- born wizard, Ted Tonks, led to her being disowned by most of the Black
family. Her name was burnt out from the tapestry that depicts the black family
tree at Grimmauld place. Whether the Black family likes or not, this means that
Tonks is related to them all. Tonks’ Great -Great-Great-Grandfather was Phineas
Nigellus who was the least popular headmaster Hogwarts ever had. Her Aunts and
Uncles are Narcissa and
Lucius Malfoy and
Bellatrix and Rudulphus Lestrange.
Tonks is Sirius's first cousin once removed and first cousins to
Draco Malfoy.
Tonks is also distantly related to the Weasleys.

chat with Harry about brooms and expresses light-hearted jealousy over Harry’s
Firebolt. She is likely to be a strong flyer as she carry’s both Harry’s Trunk
and Hedwig’s cage slung beneath her broom on the journey from the Durselys to
Grimmauld Place.
Least Favourite Things To Do:
Tonks said she wasn't very good at housework spells so maybe she’s not very keen
on housework. As she is very clumsy, she has difficulty with Stealth and
Tracking and almost failed because of that, when she was training to be an Auror.

Academic/Career Skills:
Tonks attended Hogwarts from 1984 to 1991 and probably would have been in the
same year as Charlie Weasley. While at Hogwarts, Tonks was not made a Prefect.
She said that it was because she lacked certain "necessary qualities,"
specifically the ability to behave herself.
Aurors are required to have a minimum five N.E.W.T.s, with nothing under
"Exceeds Expectations" grade. Therefore, Tonks must have gained at least five
NEWTS when she was at Hogwarts. This would have included Defence Against the
Dark Arts, and probably the Charms, Potions (particularly the study of poisons
and antidotes), and Transfiguration she then would have needed at least on other
subject to be accepted into the Auror Training programme.
Tonks would have had to pass a background check for a criminal record, and "a
stringent series of character and aptitude tests at the Auror office." These
tests assess skill in practical defence, perseverance, and dedication, and the
ability to react well to stress” (OP29).
Tonks would then have undergone three years of Auror training from 1991 to 1994
as she told Harry that she have only qualified the year before when he first
meet her in August 1995.
Describe Tonks Character:
Tonks is an Auror and member of
the Order of the Phoenix this suggests that she is a very talented Witch who is
trusted by Dumbledore and the other members of the Order.
In many fanfics I have seen great emphasis on Tonks’ clumsiness to the exclusion
of her other character traits. Tonks is clearly embarrassed by her clumsiness,
but she openly admits to it. Her clumsiness is one of her most notable
characteristics but it should lead you to underestimate her or regard her as
stupid.
Judging by her qualifications, (she must have gained at least five NEWTS at E or
higher) and her successfully qualifying as an Auror, she must be very bright
academically. Yet she was never a model student, she admits that she was never
made a prefect because of her ‘inability to behave herself.’
This irreverence seems to have carried over into her adult life, she describes
her father as a ‘right old slob’ and when Remus Lupin explains that she prefers
to be known as ‘Tonks’ she says “So would you if your fool of a mother had
called you Nymphadora.” Tonks seems happy to tease Alastor Mad-Eyed Moody
affectionately, when many others appear to be either intimidated or in awe of
him. Tonks challenges Moody when he tells Harry that many a Wizard have lost a
buttock by putting there wands in their back pockets; she tells Moody that
taking his false eye out to wash in glass of water is “Disgusting.” When Moody
explains to Harry the plan to get him to Order Head quarters including
worst-case scenario where most of the advance guard are killed Tonks says, “Stop
being so cheerful Mad-eye, he’ll think were not taking this seriously.”
It was Tonks’ plan to send the Durselys a muggle letter telling them that they
had been short-listed for “The All England Best Kept Suburban Lawn Competition”
and inviting them to go to the prize giving ceremony. This effectively got the
Durselys out of the way so that the ‘Advanced Guard’ could collect Harry and
take him to Order Headquarters.
Tonks seems to enjoy her Metamorphmagus abilities changing her hair colour at
will and entertaining Hermione and Ginny by changing the shape of her nose. She
uses this ability in service to the Order, but it also helped her qualify as an
Auror "I got top marks in Concealment and Disguise during Auror training without
any study at all, it was great.”
During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Tonks fired spells down on the
Death eaters although she was injured she recovered from her wounds after a stay
in St. Mungo's. She was sufficiently healed to join Mad-Eye and Lupin on the
platform in King's Cross Station as they met Harry from the train.
